Rhine River Cruise, View From Room

Rhine River Cruise | AmaWaterWays

Taking the Scenic Route

Everyone loves a room with a view. The difference with certain trips is that the view begins long before you check in. A rail route through Europe, a small ship navigating a remote coastline, or a stay positioned in front of something iconic can shape the entire experience. The landscape is not an afterthought. It is part of why you go.

Rail Journeys With a View

Top Left: Colorado - Canyon Spirit | Bottom Left: Tuscany, Italy - Orient Express La Dolce Vita

Right: Peru - Belmond Andean Explorer

Rail travel is one of the most rewarding ways to experience scenery at scale, and Europe does it exceptionally well. In Italy, countryside journeys turn vineyards and coastal stretches into part of the itinerary rather than something you fly over, while alpine crossings through Switzerland, including the route between Zermatt and St. Moritz, reveal valleys, gorges, and historic bridges through panoramic windows that make every seat feel like the right one. In winter, you may even spot sledders racing down the Preda-Bergün run as the train curves past.

Beyond Europe, equally striking scenery unfolds in the American Southwest and across Peru’s Andean plateau, where red rock canyons and high-altitude plains stretch for miles in every direction.

Expedition and Small Ship Cruises With a View

Left: Antarctica - Silversea Cruises

Top Right: New Zealand - Fjordland Jewel | Bottom Right: Amazon - Uniworld

Small ship and expedition cruising offer a similar shift in perspective. On New Zealand’s South Island, an intimate yacht exploring Milford Sound hugs towering fjord walls where waterfalls spill directly into the water, and guests head out by kayak or tender, often spotting fur seals, Fiordland crested penguins, dolphins, and even humpback whales along the way.

In Western Australia’s remote Kimberley region, vessels approach cliff-drop waterfalls and ancient rock formations, while Antarctica offers ice stretching to the horizon and wildlife gathered along stark shorelines. Deep in the Amazon, rainforest lines both banks of the river, and the scenery shifts with every bend. Different landscapes, same advantage. Access changes everything.

Rooms With a View

Right: Banff National Park, Canada - Fairmont Chateau Lake Louise

Top Left: Uluṟu-Kata Tjuṯa National Park, Australia - Longitude 131

Bottom Left: Venice, Italy - The St. Regis Venice

The right property continues that immersion. At Lake Louise in Banff National Park, lakefront stays frame turquoise water and glacier-lined peaks so completely that the view becomes part of your daily rhythm. In Australia’s Red Centre, accommodations facing Uluru allow sunrise and sunset to unfold without leaving your terrace. In Venice, canal-facing rooms place gondolas and historic palazzos just outside your window, changing the way you experience the city entirely.

If the view matters to you, I design trips where it never feels like an afterthought.

Solo Travel

The Rise of Solo Travel and Why Now Is the Time to Go

Solo travel is being embraced like never before. Traveling alone is not lonely. It is an opportunity to embrace your autonomy and shape a journey around what inspires you most. These trips offer the freedom to explore more deeply, follow your own interests, and let personal expression guide the experience.

If you are considering setting out on your own, you are in good company. Industry research suggests the number of solo travelers will double over the next five years, reshaping the travel landscape and how journeys are designed.

Solo Wellness Travel

Rancho Mirage, California - Sensei Porcupine Creek | Bhutan - Six Senses Thimphu

Women are a significant part of that growth, many realizing that self-care can be most meaningful when done independently. Some are drawn to wellness retreats where structured programming and a focus on health and balance make solo travel feel comfortable for first-timers. Destination spas focused on fitness and mindfulness, along with programs centered on longevity and holistic healing, can be thoughtfully matched to your personal goals and comfort level.

Solo Travel Small-Group Tours

Tiger's Nest, Bhutan | Ta Prohm Temple, Cambodia

For those who want a balance of independence and connection, small group journeys are an ideal choice. Travel with like-minded explorers and knowledgeable guides who bring destinations to life while taking the pressure off planning. Explore Angkor Wat in Siem Reap, hike to Tiger’s Nest in Bhutan, or discover the natural wonders of the Galapagos by small ship. These experiences can be curated to feel immersive without feeling overwhelming. Many solo travelers return from these journeys not only inspired but also connected to new friends around the world.

Private Solo Experiences

Luxury Yacht | South Africa - Londolozi Private Game Reserve

Your journey can also include highly personalized experiences tailored to your interests. Walk through the Acropolis at golden hour with a private historian. Explore Florence’s markets with a local chef before a hands-on cooking experience. Track the Great Migration in the Serengeti with a dedicated wildlife guide. Rise early for a hot air balloon over Cappadocia or charter a private yacht to explore hidden coves at your own pace.

Adults-only luxury ships are also a great way to go it alone, where singles can mingle with other travelers when they’re in the mood and retreat to read on a deck chair or their balcony suite for some much-needed alone time.

Discover how traveling alone can be one of the best times of your life.

Why Your Travel Advisor is Better Than Any AI Bot

Have you heard about the traveler whose AI itinerary sent them to a closed attraction? Or listed the wrong festival dates so they missed the event entirely? Or recommended a Michelin-starred restaurant that wasn’t even open for the season?

Travel advisors see it all the time. AI is impressive, but it still makes mistakes, especially with time-sensitive details, local nuances, and flight logistics. And when it comes to your vacation days, close enough simply isn’t good enough.

Travel advisors offer what AI cannot: real experience, real relationships, and real accountability. I design personalized itineraries based on your budget, mobility needs, and travel style. I manage flights in real time, understand airport layouts and connection timing, and know how to keep your journey smooth from departure to return.

That said, AI can still be a useful starting point. It’s a great way to put words to what you’re in the mood for, whether that’s ancient history with beautiful hotels and time outdoors, or a beach escape that feels relaxing but not predictable. Bring those early ideas to me. The more I understand what excites you, the better I can shape it into a trip that feels effortless, thoughtful, and completely your own.

Travel is personal. And the right guidance turns a good getaway into something extraordinary.
