Austria Is Always In Season

With the cooler weather and festive season right around the corner, Europe continues to be on my radar, especially Austria, which has so much to offer all year round.

Austria in the Fall

In Fall, wander the streets of Vienna, the country’s culture capital. Music is part of the fabric of life here, with concerts in all sorts of venues every day and night. My advice? Get tickets to whatever is on at the Vienna State Opera. It’s one of the world’s top performance venues and a night out you’ll never forget, from the grand Renaissance architecture to the top-notch people watching.

No Vienna visit is complete without a stop at a coffee house. Order an Einspänner (espresso topped with whipped cream) at Café Central, where the cognoscenti have gathered for centuries.

Austria in the Winter

Top: Festung Hohensalzburg, Salzburg, Austria

Bottom Left: St. Anton am Arlberg, Austria | Bottom Right: Salzburg Christmas Market

In Winter, Vienna’s Ball season begins mid-November and peaks in January, with more than 300 dances from the traditional to the lively Rainbow Ball. Book waltz lessons, rent a gown or tux, and end the night like a local at a sausage stand where formalwear is part of the scene.

Christmas markets light up towns across Austria with mulled wine, raclette, and festive treats, a magical start to the season. Prefer the slopes? Head to St. Anton am Arlberg for legendary runs and après, or to Zell am See-Kaprun for lakeside alpine charm.

Austria in Spring and Summer

In Spring/Summer, hikers return to the Alps as the snow recedes and music festivals across the country begin anew. Many head to Salzburg for a Sound of Music moment, while others come for the world-renowned festival in July and August.

This is also the season for exploring Austria’s lakes, from boating on Wolfgangsee to swimming in the crystal clear waters of Lake Achensee, surrounded by mountain views and endless summer days.

The Allure of Boutique Stays and Curated Experiences

In today’s world of travel, personalization is everything. Boutique hotels and curated journeys offer something different from the large global chains: an intimate, immersive, and distinctly local sense of luxury. These stays often reflect the traditions, flavors, and landscapes of the region, giving you a deeper connection to the destination.

Smaller in scale, these properties are designed to notice the details. Guests are welcomed not as room numbers but as travelers whose preferences and stories matter. Interiors often carry a strong sense of place, whether timber cabins in the mountains, villas shaped by Mediterranean light, or coastal retreats echoing the rhythm of the sea.

Boutique stays mean your days unfold in ways that feel both personal and memorable. A chalet overlooking Norway’s mirrored fjords at dawn offers a front-row seat to nature’s grandeur. In the Alps, pristine slopes open exclusively to a handful of skiers, while Patagonia invites adventure with horseback rides across vast, untouched landscapes. The Caribbean creates moments of indulgence, from private outings to hidden coves to dinners with toes in the sand under starlit skies. In Asia, retreats framed by temples and rice fields offer a sanctuary of stillness, with cultural depth and refined comfort at every turn.

Boutique hotels create these kinds of moments because they are designed with authenticity at their core. Some focus on wellness, offering serene spaces for yoga, spa rituals, and reflection. Others center on cuisine, highlighting local produce and regional wines. Many are shaped by sustainability, crafted to blend naturally into their surroundings while still offering remarkable comfort.

The Best Ways to Upgrade Your Getaway

While the journey is always part of the adventure, a little pampering along the way makes travel even more enjoyable. I can share all the pampering hacks you need, and suggest some you’ve never even considered. Some of my personal favorites include:

VIP/Private Airport Suites - why settle for the busy airline lounge and its mediocre buffet when you can escape the airport chaos entirely? Several top airlines now offer private suites and personal tarmac service straight to your seat.

Greeter Services - changing planes in a new country? Confused about the Schengen entry procedure? Ask me to arrange a professional greeter to guide you through and help you skip the lines.

Luggage Forwarding - send your bags directly from home to your hotel, and skip the baggage carousel time suck when you land. (Pro tip: if you’re traveling by train in Japan, this service is a must within the country.)

The best advice, however, is to tell me what matters most to you. Is it hiring a Michelin-starred chef to cook in your Tuscan villa? Spending time on a private yacht in the Seychelles with your loved ones? Booking out an island with white sandy beaches and cerulean waters in the Caribbean or French Polynesia for your family reunion? Let me make magic for you.

Relax, unwind, and let me arrange the details that turn good trips into great ones.
